Officially A Farmer!!
Hey everyone!!
Before I start off I just want to say I miss all of you soo much! I think and pray for y'all every day! Hope everyone is doing okay:)
We had the coolest experience this week
On Tuesday night Elder Hatch and I got a call at like 10:28 (just before lights out) a guy in a low voice said, kinda slurring,
"My grandma is 97 and a member of your church, she falls all the time now and I think she's going to die soon. I quit my job so I can take care of her. Her name is Dorothy. My name is Rob Browne, people call me Red Rob. I'm not a member of your church, I will do whatever it takes to help my grandmother. I'll come to church, I'll get baptized. But make sure you're here at EXACTLY 11 o clock tomorrow, I'll be here all day but you need to get here at this time specifically"
That was kind of a summary of what we heard from him, he was hard to understand. So we go to his house at EXACTLY 11 o'clock in the morning the next day. Elder Hatch and I were both pretty spooked because people don't just call in. Some missionaries have been set up like that and have been beaten by guys that have drug problems and then robbed. This house looked like a place where we'd get killed haha.
Hatch and I are both big guys so we figured we could take whoever was waiting to ambush us. We both look at each other as if to say, "if I don't make it tell my family I love them" and we knock..
The second we stop knocking the door swings open and there's just a big dude with ratty hair and a beard (all of it red) standing there.
He says "Hey I'm Rob, come inside my grandma is in the back. We have to walk in front of him in a straight line (bc of all the clutter and trash and beer cans and cigarettes everywhere) as we're walking I just keep thinking "we're gonna die, we're gonna die, we are supposed to let the owner of the house walk in front so we don't get trapped in"
But lo and behold his tiny tiny grandma is in the back sitting in a wheel chair with about 20 cats around her. She can't see us coming (she's going blind) and she was just talking away to herself (full blown dementia) -mom I think you're gonna be like this when you're 97 ;)-
We end up talking to her for a while but can't get anywhere bc she kept bringing up random stuff :/
But all of a sudden I get that feeling that someone is just staring into your soul and I look to Rob in the corner and he was looking dead at me, when I looked at him he looked away. He hates making eye contact.. right then in that moment I feel the strongest impression to tell him he needs to come to church and make some friends and to feel of Gods love.
Immediately He responds "yes of course! What do I wear? What do I do? What time does it start?" We give him all the details and tell him we're excited to see him at church.
Once we left, Hatch and I felt like this guy is using his grandma as a way in for the church. He isnt confident enough to just walk in to church by himself. He has lived in his house 5 years and doesn't have friends or family around. So this will be good for him to feel loved and welcomed by the members here.
Sunday shows up and Rob is there! He Completely shaved his face and head, when we ask him about it he just said I felt like I needed to be cleaner around you two and I wanted to be clean coming to church.
How awesome is that! God is already changing this guys life. Rob said he loved church and wants to meet with us again:)
Other experiences!!!
We do lots of service here and at this time of the year its branding season! So me hatch and 2 other missionaries go out on a farm and start chasing down calves to get them branded! It smelled soooo gross! Because of the burnt hair smell and bc when the calves got scared when you were grabbing them they'd just let it rip and get poop allllll over the place. Haha it was a good experience though. We got to see calves being born, we got see puppies being born, it was just a high quality week!
