Country Roaaaaaad Take Me Hommeeeeeee
To the plaaaaaace I belonggggg NORTH VIRGINIAAAAAAAAA
I had this song in my head allllllllll week!
My new companions name is Elder Oringdulph and he's from Northern Virginia. He is a stud and a half. I've been praying for a companion who is happy and energetic and that wants to work and MY PRAYERS WERE ANSWERED! He wants to work super hard and knows that he has to do extra studies and he doesn't complain about it! He's also hilarious and loves to laugh! I'll have more stories next week I promise.
This week has been a really good one for me in the fact that I'm able to look at my life and see what I need to change and work on. (When you train you always see different things you can improve on)
As missionaries we help people prepare to make promises with God. I would like to write about that this week. but this time I want to help you all to prepare for one of the most important times of the year. And that is General Conference.
In the Bible we see that there were Prophets. Adam, Moses, Noah, Abraham were all chosen from the beginning and "Ordained [a] Prophet unto the nations" (Jeremiah 1:5)
We know that there was a "Famine of [...] hearing the words of the LORD" (Amos 8:11)
We call that famine the Great Apostasy.
Shortly after when Jesus Christ died the Heavens Closed and people "[ran] to and fro to seek the word of the Lord, and [did] not find it."
In 1820 is when the Heavens were reopened and the "Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (the Lords Kingdom) [was] once again established on the earth." (Introduction page of the Book of Mormon)
We know that there is a Prophet RIGHT NOW leading the Church under the direction of Jesus Christ.
We get to hear from the Prophet and other men chosen from God this Saturday and Sunday. In preparation for hearing them I ask that you all
1. Prayerfully think of Questions you want answered. If you are going to learn by faith it is going to take spiritual, mental and physical exertion. Not just passive reception.
physically write down your questions and have them near you as you watch.
2. Seek to learn of Christ. Focus on how much He is mentioned and how much of a role He has in the Church. When we learn of Christ we become more like Him.
3. Pay attention to Themes. What are the common topics of discussion? do we need to focus on Prayer, Scripture study, Family time?
4. Pay attention to the Book of Mormon. "The Book of Mormon is the Keystone of our religion" It is a tool God has given us to use to help us come closer to Him. The scriptures used that reference the Book of Mormon will have a Spirit with them that will be so strong.
5. MOST IMPORTANT. Write down what the Spirit individually tells you. DO NOT try and write down everything. You will be able to go back to talks. The next thing is write down the calls to action. There will be things that the Prophet says that may seem little and tedious but remember the Story of Noah. The people didn't listen to Him about the ark and it was their destruction. I am not saying there will be a flood and destruction coming to us. Please Realize these things "[are] a commandment of the Lord" (1 Nephi 3:5) and can mean spiritual life and death.
I promise if yall do these things Conference will change your lives. I will be doing all these things as well.
I love you all!
