"FOR" (Preposition: "Benificial To; On Behalf Of")
The subject will make sense if you read the whole email :)
There was a Prophet named Alma who had a son named Alma (Don't get confused)
Alma the Younger was an
"Unbeliever [...] and he became a very wicked and idolatrous man. He was a man of many words, and did speak much flattery to the people" (Mosiah 27:8)
Causing a lot of them to fall away from Christ's Church.
One day, while Alma the Younger
"[was] going about rebelling against God [...] an angel of the Lord appeared unto [him]" (Mosiah 27:11)
And asked him in essence:
"Why the heck are you doing all the dumb stuff you're doing? Don't you know that God won't have his Church destroyed by a man alone? That only the sins of all the people can over throw it?" (Elder Legas translation of Mosiah 27:13)
--Okay side note. Alma the Younger was the Son of Alma the PROPHET. I'm POSITIVE Alma the Younger had his fair share of getting his buns chewed out by his frustrated Father.--
But this chewing out was different, it physically took a toll on Alma the Younger.
"He became dumb, that he could not open his mouth; and he became weak, even that he could not move his hands" (Mosiah 27:19)
The seemingly lifeless body of Alma the Younger was brought in to his father
-- Now I'm not a father yet but I'm sure nobody would want to see their son, daughter, brother, sister, in a comatose state. With no sign of getting better --
But when Alma the Senior (Prophet) saw this
"[He] rejoiced"!! (Mosiah 27:20)
Not only did he rejoice but he
"Caused that his people gather together that they might witness what the Lord had done FOR his son" (Mosiah 27:21)
And it's this scripture that I want to focus on a little more ^
If you want to know the rest of what happened to Alma the Younger and the people in encourage you to get a Book of Mormon (they're free, I can help get you one) and read Mosiah 27: 22- 37. You'll start right where I left off.
But back to the focus:
"Look at what the Lord has done FOR my son"
Here is a Prophet that truly knows the meaning of eternal perspective.
I know if I was put into the situation I would say,
"Look what happened TO him"
"Look what happened TO me when I did such-and-such"
Maybe we all think a little like that. But Maybe we all can learn from this story.
Maybe just Maybe the Lord does things FOR our good!
What!?
Maybe WE all need to realize that the Lord
"[Shows] unto men their weakness (trials, afflictions, etc)" (Ether 12:27)
FOR
"[Our] gain" (2 Nephi 2:2)
I pray to understand why the Lord puts me through certain things. There is always a reason. He is perfectly just. Let us all
"[First seek out] the Kingdom of God, and His righteousness" (Matthew 6:33)
(Seek to have an eternal perspective)
AND THEN
"All these things shall be added unto you" (Matthew 6:33)
(We will understand what the Lord was doing FOR us)
I can promise when you do these things you will be happier. That's how I've been able to be happy when things aren't going so hot.
My pictures will sum up the rest if my week:
1. The District + Elder Freeze. The Sisters. (If you know you know)
2. Elder Ramirez and I went on Exchanges
3. During weekly planning I drew a smily face on Elder Leavitts foot :)
4. Frat house facemasks
5. Exchanges with Elder Brinkerhoff
6-7. Mansions
8. Exchanges with Elder Freeze -ask me why the faces. I'll be happy to tell
9. Probably one of my favorite stories: Elder Leavitt ate SO MUCH food at a dinner and he had to lead out a lesson and said he couldn't bc he was sick. So I made throw up noises and talked about greasy food as we were walking. He eventually spewed and felt better and we went to the lesson :) #imagoodtraineripromise
