An American, A Tongan, And A 1 Armed Chinese Man Walk Into A Church Building

Sounds like the beginning of a funny joke huh!? In reality that's just our companionship now!! Elder McGuire is back in the mission! He previously was serving in Hong Kong but then he got the Corona Virus so he got sent here! (Not really, he went through quarantine and everything so he's safe)

Our week was so fun! But SO COLD!

The cold was the means of a super amazing miracle though!

Before I tell the miracle I want to give yall a fun fact!

Did y'all know that if you have a facemask on the steam from your breath will go up and stick to your eyelashes and then bc your eyes are exposed to the wind the steam will freeze and you'll get ice chunks that weigh your eyes down?? It's a phenomenon Elder 'Umu likes to call, "oku fu'u momoko 'aupito" (translation: It's freezing out here!)

So, there we were, scraping ice off our eyes and getting to our next appointment. We walk past a house that has lights on and in the window in the kitchen we see a Denver Broncos logo. Knowing it's REXBURG and knowing that all members are so kind we went and  knocked to "introduce ourselves" (mostly we just needed to get out of the cold and get warm)

The guy answers, and says, "Elders! Come on in! You look freezing!"

Right then we knew we ran into some super elect people.

We chat about the Broncos and where we're from, how long we've been out, the whole shebang and then out trots the cutest little girl, Niah is her name. She goes, "Missionaries! I've been wanting to talk to you! I want to get baptized!"

We think, "oh this is great! We can help this little 7 year old understand what it means to be baptized before she turns 8"

Then the dad turns to us and says, "I'm a member, my wife isn't, we all took the lessons a long time ago but the missionaries just weren't personable and made my wife mad. We would love for you to start teaching us again so we can be an eternal family."

WHAT.

He continued, "My wife will be a bit more hesitant, but start with Niah, you two are an answer to prayers for coming tonight"

It was such a tender mercy! Heavenly Father is more than willing to match our efforts with His power if we are willing to keep trying, repenting, and moving forward with faith. (Even if us trying and moving forward is just walking to our next appointment)

I think of the unplanned opportunities Christ had in His ministry, (Matthew 9:18-26)

Unexpected / Unplanned opportunity #1

As Christ was talking to the Pharisees,
"... there was a certain ruler, (who came to Christ) and worshipped Him, saying, My daughter is even now dead: ... come and (bless) her and she shall live"

"... Jesus arose, and followed him ..."

(At this time Christ was in the process of calling Matthew to be a disciple. But recognized and appropriately responded to the needs of another man)

Unexpected / Unplanned opportunity #2

As Christ followed Jarius to his home, a woman "... came behind Him, and touched the hem of His garment"

This woman thought within herself, "If I may but touch His garment, I shall (be healed from my issue of blood)"

Christ discerning her thoughts, turned to her and said, "... Daughter, be of good comfort; thy faith hath made thee whole ..."

(For the second time Christ recognized an unplanned opportunity to serve and appropriately responded to the needs of someone else)

I'm grateful for the tender mercies I've seen throughout the week. I'm grateful for communication. I'm grateful for my friends and family that support me. I'm grateful to be a part of this work. It's going by way too fast.

Keep strengthening your testimony in God's plan and timing!

I love y'all and I pray for y'all!

Pictures!
1. This was a pit stop we took in an apartment complex because OUR FINGERS WERE TOO COLD AND OUR PHONES DIDNT RESPOND TO US CLICKING ON THE SCREEN! (Basically, we were "de-thawing" as my friend Emi Cano would say)
2. Just the temp one morning :)
3. Mini story time: Niah, the girl we started teaching this week writes us, "thank you for helping me learn" letters and so we thought we'd doorbell ditch her with a present and our own note! We're short distance pen pals and it's the greatest thing ever.
4. EXCHANGE WITH ELDER LEAVITT
5. Our freezin trio :)

PS. Jesus healed Jarius' daughter in the end!

I love my friends
